Dal Tadka Recipe
The dhaba-style dal tadka — toor dal topped with a fiery ghee tempering. Perfect with steamed basmati or jeera rice.
Ingredients
- 1 cup toor dal (arhar)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 2 green chillies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 4 garlic cloves, sliced
- 2 dry red chillies
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Coriander for garnish
- Salt to taste
How to Make Dal Tadka
- Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric, salt, 3 cups water — 3 whistles.
- In a pan, heat 1 tbsp ghee. Add onion, green chilli, sauté 2 mins. Add tomato, cook till soft.
- Add cooked dal, simmer 5 mins. Adjust salt and water.
- For tadka: heat 1 tbsp ghee, add cumin, garlic, dry red chilli, red chilli powder. Pour over dal.
- Garnish with coriander. Serve with rice and papad.
