Sambar Recipe
Home-style sambar with mixed veggies, toor dal, tamarind and sambar powder. Perfect with idli, dosa, or rice.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup toor dal
- 1 drumstick, cut
- 1 onion, cubed
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 brinjal, cubed
- 1 carrot, cubed
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 2 tbsp sambar powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- Curry leaves, hing, 2 dry red chillies
- 2 tbsp oil
- Coriander, salt to taste
How to Make Sambar
- Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric and water — 3 whistles till soft, mash.
- In a pot, add all veggies, tamarind paste, 2 cups water. Cook 10 mins till tender.
- Add cooked dal, sambar powder, salt. Simmer 5 mins.
- For tadka: heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing, dry red chilli.
- Pour tadka over sambar. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot with idli/dosa/rice.
