How to Make Sambar

  1. Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric and water — 3 whistles till soft, mash.
  2. In a pot, add all veggies, tamarind paste, 2 cups water. Cook 10 mins till tender.
  3. Add cooked dal, sambar powder, salt. Simmer 5 mins.
  4. For tadka: heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing, dry red chilli.
  5. Pour tadka over sambar. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot with idli/dosa/rice.
